Engineered flooring comes in 15mm & 20mm. 15mm thick engineered flooring is modern and popular click fitting system. It's ideal if you're using under floor heating. It has a perfect thickness to allow the natural transfer of heat from your under floor heating system and ensure that you maintain correct room temperature. 20mm engineered wood flooring is a low-cost, lot more durable and much less flexible than its thinner counterparts. Since, the board retains its heat for a longer time, investing in 20mm can help to save money. These are three key elements that will affect your choice of thickness:

  • Whether or not you have under floor heating.
  • The level of traffic you anticipate in the room you’re going to lay the flooring.
  • The construction and condition of your subfloor.

Engineered wood flooring is wooden boards made of three layers of woods. They are designed as such by placing each layer so that the grain runs at 90° so it becomes virtually impossible for the wood to swell or shrink with changes in humidity. This construction drastically improves the stability of the wood floor in all humidity levels. Engineered wood flooring is more stable than solid wood planks and offers easier methods of installation. They are incredibility strong and durable and have the flexibility to withstand changes in temperatures. The thicker the surface layer the more times it can be sanded and refinished to remove the ravages of wear.
